Samartex Coach Christopher Ennin Bemoans Late Collapse in Draw Against Medeama
FC Samartex head coach Christopher Ennin has expressed mixed feelings about his team’s performance following their dramatic 1-1 draw with regional rivals Medeama SC in the Ghana Premier League over the weekend.
The Timber Giants came agonizingly close to securing their first away win of the season but conceded a late equalizer in stoppage time during a thrilling Week 6 clash at the Akoon Park in Tarkwa.
Awuah Dramani lit up the encounter with a sensational strike in the 39th minute, scoring from midfield to put Samartex ahead in what many have described as a potential Puskás-worthy goal. However, their celebrations were cut short in the dying moments when Medeama’s Kingsley Braye pounced on a loose ball inside the box to level the score.
Reflecting on the game, the 43-year-old coach admitted that while he was pleased with his team’s overall display, he was disappointed with their reaction after taking the lead.
“It’s quite a good game but unfortunately we gave the game away. We just have to go out and work on how to deal with pressure in away games. We conceded due to lack of concentration,” Ennin said in a post-match interview.
He went on to praise Awuah Dramani’s wonder strike and the team’s initial tactical discipline but acknowledged the need for improvement in game management. “It’s one of the fantastic goals I’ve seen. We came in to hold and hit them on encounter and that really worked perfectly for us,” he added.
Following the draw, FC Samartex have dropped to sixth place on the league table with 10 points. The Timber Giants will look to bounce back when they host newly promoted Hohoe United in their next fixture at the Nsenkyire Sports Complex.
