Referees Association Disowns GFA Third Term Proposal – George Saijah Speaks Out
Chairman of the Referees Association of Ghana (RAG), George Saijah, has distanced the body from claims that it proposed a third term for Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Okraku.
His remarks come amid growing scrutiny over the GFA’s proposed statute amendment, which seeks to increase the presidential term limit to three.
Speaking in an interview on Sportsnite on Asempa FM, Saijah stated categorically that the association has never met with the GFA to discuss such a proposal, let alone endorse it.
“I heard about the third term proposal. We never met the FA and they didn’t talk about the third term,” he clarified.
Saijah further rejected reports suggesting the Referees Association was among the congress members who backed the extension of the GFA presidential term from two to three.
“The Referees Association has never proposed a third term for the GFA presidency. There was nothing like that,” he emphasized.
The proposal is expected to be tabled for discussion at the GFA’s Ordinary Congress on August 12, 2025.
Saijah’s statement adds to a series of denials and criticisms from football stakeholders who believe the amendment lacks broad consensus and transparency.
