Prince Owusu Admits Kotoko Must Fix Scoring Woes Ahead of Crucial Hearts Clash

Asante Kotoko head into this weekend’s Super Clash against Hearts of Oak under mounting pressure, with their Premier League title ambitions hanging in the balance.

The Porcupine Warriors trail leaders Medeama SC by eight points, meaning any slip-up against their arch-rivals could further complicate their pursuit of the 2025/26 league crown. Sunday’s fixture will also mark the first match for Prince Owusu in his new role as caretaker coach following Abdul Karim Zito’s resignation after Kotoko’s MTN FA Cup Round of 16 elimination.

Owusu, who stepped into the hot seat earlier this week, has acknowledged that his side’s recent struggles in front of goal remain a major concern. Kotoko have managed just four goals in their last six matches, a return he believes must improve urgently.

“It is worrying. It’s something we must work on and improve,” Owusu said ahead of the clash. “We’ve identified the problem and we’ll spend more time this week sharpening our goalscoring.”

With the Super Clash expected to attract massive attention, Kotoko will be desperate to make a statement under their new boss and keep their title hopes alive. Hearts of Oak, meanwhile, will also be targeting maximum points to boost their own league ambitions.

The high-stakes encounter will be played at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, where both teams will battle for bragging rights and crucial points in the title race.
