President John Dramani Mahama has announced the establishment of the Schools Sports Authority (SSA), a new initiative aimed at strengthening youth sports development through structured inter-school competitions and talent identification programs.

Delivering his State of the Nation Address on February 27, 2025, President Mahama emphasized the crucial role of grassroots sports in producing future champions and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to sports development.

“Recognizing the critical role of youth development, we are implementing a significant overhaul of grassroots sports with the establishment of the Schools Sports Authority (SSA),” the President declared.

“This body will oversee structured inter-school competitions and talent identification initiatives essential for nurturing future champions,” he added.

The Schools Sports Authority will collaborate with the Ministry for Sports and Recreation, the Ghana Education Service (GES), and key stakeholders to ensure a sustainable framework for youth sports participation across the country.

The initiative is expected to provide young athletes with the right training, exposure, and competitive platforms to develop their skills, strengthening Ghana’s sports ecosystem for years to come.
