Police Ladies etched their name into Ghanaian football history on Sunday evening, securing their maiden Malta Guinness Women’s Premier League title with a 2-0 victory over reigning champions Ampem Darkoa Ladies at the University of Ghana Stadium.

The final, played in challenging conditions due to a heavy downpour, witnessed a spirited performance from both teams. But it was Police Ladies who displayed greater composure and tactical discipline throughout the encounter.

The breakthrough came in the 27th minute, when forward Jane Ayieyam capitalized on relentless pressure to slot home the opening goal. The early strike gave Police the confidence boost they needed, while Ampem Darkoa struggled to find rhythm in the soggy conditions.

Ampem Darkoa, who were aiming to defend their crown and extend their dominance in the domestic women’s game, mounted a determined response in the second half. However, they were consistently denied by a resolute Police Ladies backline, anchored by a solid performance from goalkeeper Vivian Antwi.

With the clock ticking and Ampem Darkoa throwing more players forward, Police Ladies took advantage of the space left behind. Substitute Victoria Teye Williams put the game to bed in the 89th minute, calmly finishing off a swift counterattack to seal the 2-0 win and ignite wild celebrations among the Police faithful.

The victory not only delivers the league crown to Police Ladies for the first time in their history but also earns them a place in the next edition of the CAF Women’s Champions League — a landmark achievement for the club.

It also marks a moment of redemption, as Police Ladies had suffered a 2-0 defeat to Ampem Darkoa in the 2017 Super Cup. This time, they flipped the script and emerged deserved winners on the biggest stage of the domestic women’s game.
