Head coach of Accra Hearts of Oak, Aboubakar Ouattara, has boldly claimed that his side were the best team in the just-ended 2024/25 Ghana Premier League season, despite not finishing in the top four.

The Phobians wrapped up their campaign with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over defending champions FC Samartex on Sunday, extending their winning streak to four matches. Konadu Yiadom’s solitary goal sealed all three points for the Rainbow Club at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Hearts of Oak concluded the season with 58 points—level with archrivals Asante Kotoko—but finished outside the top four due to head-to-head standings. Meanwhile, Bibiani GoldStars emerged as champions in only their fourth season in the topflight.

Despite the final standings, Ouattara expressed strong belief in his team’s overall performance throughout the campaign. Speaking in a post-match interview, the Ivorian tactician was full of praise for his squad’s resilience and growth.

“If you ask me, Hearts of Oak were the best team in this season,” he said. “We are coming from back, we started with zero points. The points between us [and] the champions are just five points. We had players people didn’t know, now they are stars. We hoped to win the league but we didn’t.”

Looking ahead, the coach is confident that Hearts of Oak will regroup and come back stronger in the next campaign.
