Otto Addo Visits Injured Tariq Lamptey in Italy
Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has made a trip to Italy to check on defender Tariq Lamptey, who is currently sidelined with a long-term injury.
The Fiorentina full-back sustained an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury shortly after the recent international break. He underwent surgery to correct the problem and is expected to be out of action for several months, ruling him out of Ghana’s decisive 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against the Central African Republic and Comoros.
Lamptey’s setback is a significant blow for both his club and country. The 25-year-old only completed a summer move to Fiorentina in search of a fresh start after battling injuries during his time in England. His new club has confirmed that the recovery process could take at least six months, which raises doubts about his availability for the World Cup should Ghana book their place at the tournament.
Coach Addo’s visit highlights his commitment to the welfare of his players off the field, ensuring Lamptey receives the needed encouragement as he begins the long road to recovery.
