Otto Addo Responds to Calls for Dismissal
Ghana coach Otto Addo has addressed widespread calls for his dismissal following the Black Stars’ failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Ghana’s hopes of featuring in next year’s tournament in Morocco were extinguished after a 1-1 draw against Angola on Friday, leaving fans and critics frustrated. The result marked the culmination of a disappointing campaign, with the Black Stars failing to secure a single victory in five matches.
Facing mounting criticism, Addo, a former Borussia Dortmund scout defended his credentials by highlighting the esteemed coaches he has worked under during his career.
“I trained under Sammer. I trained under Klopp; I was assistant to Edin Terzic, who was Dortmund’s head coach,” Addo stated during a press briefing, referencing mentors such as Matthias Sammer and Liverpool’s Jürgen Klopp.
Addo added that while he welcomes constructive criticism, he places greater value on feedback from respected figures within the football world. “They are also critical of some things, but this has much more value if I speak to Jürgen Klopp and he says this or that than somebody from anywhere saying blah blah, this is bad.”
Ghana’s final group game against Niger on Monday will mark the end of a campaign to forget, as the team seeks to salvage some pride before regrouping for future challenges.
