Odi Ahenkan Kwame Yeboah, CEO of Ahenkan Football Academy, has stressed the importance of developing Ghana’s local leagues as a foundation for the success of the national teams.

Yeboah’s comments come in the wake of recent debates over the Ghana Football Association’s efforts to invest more resources into the Ghana Premier League and lower divisions.

Speaking on Adom TV’s Fire for Fire on Thursday, August 14, 2025, Yeboah highlighted the direct link between the standard of domestic competitions and the performance of the Black Stars and other national sides.

“Our national teams can only perform well when the local leagues are of a high standard,” he stated.

Many stakeholders have argued that stronger domestic competitions will help unearth and prepare talent for the international stage.

As the conversation about reforms in Ghana football continues, his remarks echo a widely held belief that grassroots and league development remain crucial to reviving the country’s football fortunes.
