Chairman of the MTN FA Cup Committee, Wilson Arthur, has stressed the significance of the ongoing FA Cup tournament in shaping the structure and smooth operation of both the Ghana Premier League and the Division One League.

With football activities continuing despite recent challenges, the MTN FA Cup Committee remains focused on enhancing security, improving match organization, and ensuring that lessons learned from the FA Cup positively impact the future of Ghanaian club football.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Sports Nite with Prof. E.K. Wallace, Arthur acknowledged the tragic death of Asante Kotoko supporter Nana Pooley but insisted that football activities must continue, with a strong focus on security and organization.

“We didn’t expect the tragic death of Nana Pooley, and we are all in mourning,” he stated. “But in life, what matters is how you respond to situations. The Division One League is still ongoing, and the MTN FA Cup is a separate competition, even though some Premier League clubs are also participating.”

Arthur assured that stringent safety measures are being implemented to ensure a secure and competitive atmosphere for all teams and fans involved in the competition.

“The most important thing is putting the right structures in place for smooth operations. Everything we do in the FA Cup will eventually influence the Premier League and Division One,” he added.
