Ghana midfielder Mohammed Kudus has expressed pride in his Tottenham Hotspur teammates despite their heartbreaking defeat to European champions Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Super Cup on Wednesday night at Stadio Friuli.

The Europa League winners looked poised to stun PSG after storming to a 2-0 lead but faltered in the dying minutes, allowing the French giants to fight back and win the tie on penalties.

Micky van de Ven opened the scoring for Spurs in the first half, with new captain Cristian Romero doubling the advantage shortly after the break. However, second-half substitutes Lee Kang-in and Goncalo Ramos struck in the final ten minutes to level the match, forcing a penalty shootout. Van de Ven and Mathys Tel missed their spot-kicks, sealing PSG’s victory.

“It is disappointing to lose the game in the end. This is a big lesson to stay focus for the whole 90 minutes but I am really proud of the team for their work ethic, their energy because I think we had them for most part of the game, just the last part we need to keep full concentration. We take this as a lesson. We have a game at the weekend and we have full focus on that,” Kudus said after the game.

The Ghana international came close to scoring in the first half when his glancing header brushed the post. The match marked Kudus’ first competitive appearance for Tottenham since completing his summer transfer from West Ham United.
