Local players are below Black Stars standard- Bechem United head coach
Bechem United head coach Kwaku Danso has opined that local players need to improve to play for the senior national soccer team; the Black Stars.
His comments comes at the back of the desire of some Ghanaians to include local players in the Black Stars squad as some believe the local players can do better than the foreign players.
Kwaku Danso however believes the Black Stars standard is high and has encouraged the local-based players to improve if they want to play regularly for the national team.
“People normally advocate for local players to be included in the Black Stars, but my main concern is that they are called into the team but not given any playing time. They (local players) should be called based on merit in order to compete for playing time as well.” He told Akoma FM.
“As long as they are Ghanaians, they are eligible to play, however like many players who play in Jordan, Cyprus, and other countries, they are still not called because they do not meet the standard”
“I haven’t played against every team in the league yet, but the few games we’ve played in the last nine, these local players are not up there and need to improve if they want to play for the Black Stars.” He added.
The Black Stars will play against Angola and Niger this month IN the 2025 AFCON qualifiers.
