Kurt Okraku Assures GFA Monitoring Refereeing Standards Amid Integrity Concerns
Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Okraku has assured clubs and fans that the governing body is paying close attention to officiating decisions across the Ghana Premier League and other domestic competitions.
Concerns about refereeing standards have intensified in recent weeks, with some supporters and club officials alleging that certain decisions have unfairly influenced results. Okraku, however, acknowledged that while mistakes are part of the game, the GFA is committed to raising officiating standards.
“But it’s very important that we pay attention to these situations or those situations because we want a perfect situation. Even though we know that as a human adventure and as human as we are, there will always be wrong calls being made,” he said while speaking to the FA’s media platform.
The GFA boss stressed that errors should not be tolerated as a norm and reiterated the Association’s responsibility to continually enhance the quality of refereeing through structured development programmes.
“The role of the Football Association is to make sure that there’s continuous training for our referees, is to make sure that our referees are continuously engaged, and is to make sure that we provide them with the enabling environment,” Okraku added.
He also reflected on the tragic death of Asante Kotoko supporter Nana Pooley in Nsoatre, noting that the incident triggered sweeping reforms in match-day operations and security protocols.
“Remember after we lost our brother Pooley, after we lost him, we took very concrete steps to ensure that football is delivered in a much, much cleaner environment,” he said.
With the domestic campaign entering a critical phase, Okraku’s comments are expected to reassure stakeholders that the GFA is working to strengthen transparency, security and fairness across Ghanaian football.
