Kofi Adams Urges GFA to “Be Bold” Over Black Stars Budget Statement
Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has called on the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to show accountability by attaching names to its official communications, following the controversy surrounding the reduction of the Black Stars’ budget for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers.
The GFA, in a response, stated that it had “taken careful note of statements made at the press briefing” and would “in due course, provide clarifications to the issues raised.”
But Adams, questioning the unsigned nature of the GFA’s release, did not hold back in his criticism.
“The GFA’s statement has no name attached. Who wrote it? Is the person afraid to put his name there? Be bold. Who is communications department?” he said in an interview with Sporty FM.
He further challenged the GFA to come clean on the matter:
“We speak to documents. Are the GFA saying they did not present estimates and that government did not slash their budget? If they respond, we’ll also respond appropriately.”
Meanwhile, the Black Stars have arrived in N’Djamena ahead of their September 4 clash with Chad at the Stade Olympique Maréchal Idriss Déby Itno. Otto Addo’s men will then return to Accra to host Mali on September 8 at the Accra Sports Stadium.
