Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has reaffirmed the government’s dedication to the growth and development of the Black Queens and other national teams, following the women’s team’s impressive bronze medal finish at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

Addressing Parliament on Tuesday, July 29, during a special sitting in honour of the returning Black Queens, Kofi Adams emphasized the government’s long-term commitment to improving infrastructure, training conditions, and career pathways for Ghana’s national teams.

“Mr. Speaker, the Ministry of Sports and Recreation remains committed to enhancing the welfare, the training conditions and development pathways for all national teams, including the Black Queens. This performance is a springboard for renewed investment in women’s sports infrastructure and capacity building,” he said.

“The government will continue to provide the platform and resources for our female athletes to excel at the highest level,” Mr. Kofi Adams added.

The Black Queens were celebrated by lawmakers following their return from Morocco, where they finished third in the continental tournament. Despite a challenging start to the campaign, the team grew stronger as the tournament progressed, reaching the semi-finals, where they narrowly lost to the host nation in a dramatic penalty shootout.

Their performance has reignited national interest in women’s football, with the Sports Minister’s remarks highlighting a renewed government focus on supporting the women’s game at both grassroots and elite levels.
