Ghana’s Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has announced a personal financial commitment to the newly approved Sports Fund, promising to donate two months of his salary to support the initiative.

Addressing Parliament following the passage of the Sports Fund Bill, Mr Adams described the fund as a landmark policy tool designed to transform sports development across the country. He explained that his donation was meant to demonstrate confidence in the fund and encourage others to rally behind the initiative.

The minister noted that the Sports Fund will provide a sustainable financing framework for sporting activities, with resources earmarked for grassroots programmes, athlete development, infrastructure projects and the overall promotion of sports excellence nationwide.

He added that the legislation represents a bold step toward resolving the long-standing financial constraints that have affected federations, athletes and sports institutions in Ghana.

The government believes the establishment of the fund will introduce a more reliable and transparent source of support for the sports sector, paving the way for improved preparation, facilities and international competitiveness.

With the bill now approved, stakeholders are expected to collaborate with the Ministry and other partners to ensure the fund delivers tangible benefits and drives the growth of Ghanaian sports.
