Kofi Adams Confirms Payment of Black Queens’ Outstanding Bonuses
Minister for Sports and Recreation Kofi Adams has officially confirmed that all outstanding bonuses owed to the Black Queens have been cleared following the team’s qualification for the 2026 CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
The announcement comes after days of tension between the players and sports authorities, with the Queens earlier threatening to boycott their second-leg clash against Egypt in Accra over unpaid allowances and bonuses from the 2024 WAFCON held in Morocco.
An emergency meeting was convened between Sports Minister Kofi Adams and GFA President Kurt Okraku, where the players were assured that all payments would be made after Tuesday’s fixture.
The team went on to deliver an emphatic performance, thrashing Egypt 4–0 to complete a 7–0 aggregate win and book their ticket to next year’s tournament.
Speaking to Woezor TV after the game, Mr. Adams confirmed that the government had honored its promise to the team.
“Black Queens’ bonuses have been paid,” he stated. “The players have been given their cheques after the game against Egypt in Accra.”
The Black Queens’ qualification marks another milestone for Ghanaian women’s football under coach Kim Lars Bjorkegren.
The players are expected to resume camp in the coming months to play a friendly against England in December. begin preparations for the 2026 WAFCON, which will be staged in Morocco.
