Head coach of Ghana’s Black Queens, Kim Lars Björkegren, has been shortlisted for the Women’s Coach of the Year award at the upcoming 2025 CAF Awards.

The Swedish tactician earned the nomination after guiding the Black Queens to a bronze medal finish at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) held in Morocco — Ghana’s best continental performance in years.

Björkegren, who took charge of the national team earlier this year following Nora Häuptle’s exit, is one of ten nominees revealed by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) in anticipation of the annual awards gala.

He finds himself among an elite group of African women’s football coaches, including Adélaïde Koudougnon (Côte d’Ivoire), Siaka Gigi Traoré (ASEC Mimosas), Lamia Boumehdi (TP Mazembe), Genoveva Anonman (15 De Agosto), Jorge Vilda (Morocco), Bankole Olowookere, Justin Madugu, Desiree Ellis, and Carol Kanyemba.

Despite the recognition, Björkegren remains focused on his immediate task — leading the Black Queens to secure qualification for the 2026 WAFCON. Ghana will face Egypt in the decisive round of qualifiers, as they aim to build on their recent progress under his leadership.

The CAF Awards ceremony is expected to honour the finest players, coaches, and teams across the continent, celebrating excellence in African football over the past year.
