Head coach of the Black Queens, Kim Lars Bjorkegren, has expressed immense pride in his young squad after Ghana booked their ticket to the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco, describing the achievement as a testament to the team’s growth and bright future.

The Black Queens cruised to qualification in emphatic fashion, defeating Egypt 7-0 on aggregate — a 3-0 win away in Ismailia followed by a commanding 4-0 victory in Accra.

Reflecting on the team’s journey since their bronze medal finish at the 2024 WAFCON, the Swedish tactician said the progress made by his players was remarkable and a sign of better things to come.

“If you take in a WAFCON, it was a long time ago that a women’s team won a bronze medal,” Bjorkegren said. “And for many of the players, that was their first WAFCON, maybe about 18 players or so. With that experience, of course, it’s going to help us in the future. We are a young and new team, and this group is just getting better and better.”

Under his leadership, the Black Queens have steadily improved in attack and defensive organization, boasting one of the best records in the qualifiers.
