Asante Kotoko head coach Karim Zito has expressed relief after his side finally halted their winless streak with a hard-fought 2-1 triumph over Young Apostles in their outstanding Week 6 Ghana Premier League clash at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.

The Porcupine Warriors had failed to win their previous two league outings and were under pressure to bounce back. Despite dominating much of the first half and creating several scoring chances, Kotoko struggled with their finishing—a concern Zito openly acknowledged.

Reflecting on the game’s tense moments and his team’s attacking frustrations, the coach said:
“So now when you go to the field it is the ability and capability of the players I will tell you when the goalkeeper go to the left try right. Then you said you are coming the ball is here because it is your thinking it is your judgment I think we were troubled I think they should back up this is what happened on the field I was I talk talk but at the end of the day I am happy that we have won.”

Kotoko finally broke the deadlock in the 51st minute through Hubert Gyau, who powered home the opener to the delight of the home fans. However, their advantage lasted only three minutes, as Richmond Opoku struck for Young Apostles to level the score and increase the tension inside the stadium.

The final stages of the match were frantic, with both sides pushing for a decisive goal. Kotoko’s persistence paid off deep into stoppage time when captain Samba O’Neil converted a controversial penalty, sparking protests from the visiting team but sealing a crucial victory.

With the win, Kotoko climb to fifth place on 19 points—just two behind the league leaders—and still hold a game in hand, boosting their momentum as the season intensifies.
