Karim Zito insists Kotoko must beat Gold Stars “at all costs”
Asante Kotoko head coach Abdul Karim Zito has made it clear that his side must claim all three points when they face Bibiani Gold Stars in their Ghana Premier League clash at the Baba Yara Stadium on Wednesday night.
The highly anticipated fixture, set to kick off at 19:00 GMT, comes just days after Kotoko were held to a 0-0 draw by Heart of Lions, a result Zito believes must be immediately improved upon.
Speaking ahead of the encounter, the experienced tactician underscored the importance of a response from his players, insisting that nothing short of victory will be acceptable.
“This is Asante Kotoko drawing [against Heart of Lions], so Wednesday, there is no excuse; we have to do everything possible to win,” Zito declared in an interview with Kotoko media.
“It won’t be easy for me, but by all costs I have to win that game.”
Kotoko enter the midweek contest with some confidence, having already beaten Gold Stars earlier this season to lift the Super Cup.
Gold Stars have managed to maintain their composure, winning both of their opening league matches, and will be eager to continue that momentum against the Porcupine Warriors.
Both teams also boast recent continental football experience — Kotoko advanced past Kwara United of Nigeria in the CAF Confederation Cup, while Gold Stars exited the CAF Champions League earlier in the season.
With both clubs eyeing early dominance in the Premier League, Wednesday’s clash promises to be a fiercely contested battle, and for Zito, the message to his players remains simple: win at all costs.
