Ghanaian winger Kamaldeen Sulemana suffered an untimely setback on Wednesday night after picking up an injury during Atalanta’s commanding 4–0 triumph over Genoa in the Round of 16 of the Coppa Italia.

The summer signing’s evening was cut short just 21 minutes into the match at the New Balance Arena. Sulemana was forced off the pitch after sustaining what initial assessments suggest is a muscle strain in his right adductor.

The 23-year-old is scheduled to undergo further medical examination on Thursday to determine the severity of the issue and the expected recovery period.

Despite losing the dynamic winger early in the contest, Gian Piero Gasperini’s side showed no signs of slowing down, delivering a dominant performance that sealed their spot in the quarterfinals of the competition.

The setback is an unwelcome one for Sulemana, who has been working to re-establish his rhythm since joining the Italian side from Southampton in the summer. Atalanta and Ghanaian fans alike will be hoping for positive news from the upcoming scans as the talented winger aims to return swiftly to action.
