Joselle Mensah Sets Two National Records at 2025 World Aquatics Championships
Ghana’s Joselle Mensah delivered a historic performance at the 2025 World Aquatics Championships by setting two new national records in the women’s freestyle events.
The 21-year-old swimmer clocked 26.48 seconds in the 50m freestyle, breaking her own previous record of 26.52 seconds set at the 2023 African Games—a performance that had earned her qualification for the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Although Joselle finished third in Heat 6, her time was not sufficient to advance to the semi-finals. However, the feat marks a significant milestone in Ghana’s swimming history.
In addition to her record in the 50m event, Joselle also set a new national benchmark in the 100m freestyle, finishing in 58.98 seconds to win her heat, but again narrowly missed out on a semi-final berth.
The 2025 World Aquatics Championships marked Joselle’s debut at the global event, underscoring her rapid progression and promise in the sport.
Despite missing out on further rounds, her double-record showing reflects Ghana’s growing potential in international swimming competitions and paves the way for more breakthroughs on the world stage.
