CD Lugo forward Jerry Afriyie has expressed his desire to earn a call-up to the Black Stars for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

The striker made his senior national team debut in November 2024 during Ghana’s final 2025 AFCON qualifier against Niger.

Despite coming off the bench, Afriyie made an instant impact, scoring his first international goal, though the Black Stars ultimately lost 2-1.

Afriyie’s rise in Ghanaian football has been remarkable. He played a crucial role in Ghana’s U-20 AFCON qualification, where he was named both Player of the Tournament and Top Scorer. Additionally, he helped Ghana secure gold at the All African Games.

Currently on loan at Spanish side CD Lugo from Al Qadisiyah, Afriyie has netted twice in the ongoing season. His impressive performances have fueled hopes of a return to the Black Stars for the World Cup qualifiers.

When asked about his ambitions for another national team call-up, Afriyie told 3Sports,

“I will be very happy and glad if they called me because there is more [goals] on the way coming.”

Ghana, currently second in Group I with nine points, will host Chad at the Accra Sports Stadium on Friday, March 21, before traveling to Morocco for a clash against Madagascar at the Grand Stade d’Al Hoceima on Monday, March 24.
