Ghana have been dealt a setback ahead of their FIFA World Cup Round of 32 encounter against Colombia after defender Kojo Oppong Peprah was ruled out through injury.

The 22-year-old sustained the injury during training, and subsequent medical assessments confirmed he will not recover in time for Saturday’s knockout fixture, forcing him to miss one of the biggest matches of Ghana’s campaign.

Peprah has quickly established himself as a popular figure among Black Stars supporters, making a strong impression despite limited opportunities on the pitch during the tournament.

Peprah featured briefly in the goalless draw against England, but his impact was immediate. Introduced late in the game, he produced a remarkable goal-line clearance with his head in the closing moments to preserve Ghana’s valuable clean sheet.

He was then handed a more prominent role in Ghana’s final group-stage match against Croatia, playing the entire second half and delivering another determined defensive performance.

His injury now leaves head coach Carlos Queiroz with a selection headache ahead of the meeting with Colombia.
