Inaki Williams Scores in Athletic Club’s Europa League Defeat to AS Roma
Ghanaian forward Inaki Williams found the net for Athletic Club on Thursday night, but his goal was not enough to prevent a 2-1 defeat against AS Roma in their Europa League Round of 16 first-leg clash.
Playing away at the Stadio Olimpico, the Spanish side battled hard but were undone by a late goal from the Italian giants.
The first half ended goalless despite both teams creating decent opportunities. However, just five minutes into the second half, Williams broke the deadlock after meeting a well-delivered corner from Aitor Paredes, nodding home a header to give Athletic Club the lead.
Roma responded swiftly, with Angelino equalizing in the 56th minute before Eldor Shomurodov struck the decisive goal in stoppage time to complete the comeback for the hosts.
With the tie still open, Williams and his teammates will return to Spain to prepare for the crucial second leg, where they will aim to overturn the deficit and keep their Europa League dreams alive.
