Former President of the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA), Abraham Kotei Neequaye, has launched a scathing comment on Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, and former Sports Minister, Nii Lante Vanderpuye, following his dramatic resignation from sports administration.

At a fiery press conference held on Monday, June 30, 2025, Neequaye confirmed his decision to step down as GBA President, signaling a return to active partisan politics while accusing key government figures of undermining his leadership and stifling the progress of boxing in Ghana.

“The Minister told me to my face that he can’t work with me. Fine — I’m a politician, he’s a politician. I’m leaving sports so we can go back and fight,” he declared with visible emotion.

Neequaye, a known member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), expressed frustration over what he termed as politically motivated interference in the management of sports institutions, stating that he could no longer serve in a system that weaponizes sports for political ends.

“I’ve always said sports should stand alone. Let politicians fight politicians — not hijack institutions meant to develop talent,” he stated, emphasizing his long-held belief in the depoliticization of sports governance.

The former GBA boss issued a pointed warning to both Kofi Adams and Nii Lante Vanderpuye:

“You don’t have that right, Kofi Adams. I will fight you — and I’ll fight Nii Lantey too,” he said, challenging their perceived roles in undermining his tenure.

His departure now paves the way for 2nd Vice President Roger Barnor, who assumes leadership as the new President of the Ghana Boxing Authority.
