Hohoe United Set Survival Target as Bashiru Eyes Strong Second-Round Push
Hohoe United head coach Abdul Rahim Bashiru has outlined a clear survival plan for his side as the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League enters its decisive phase, stressing that a strong second round will be crucial to avoiding relegation.
Following Friday’s goalless draw with Heart of Lions, Bashiru admitted that the club’s first-round return has fallen short of expectations. With the team now facing the pressure of a relegation battle, the coach says his players must raise their level and deliver results consistently in the remaining fixtures.
Speaking after the match, Bashiru revealed that the technical team has set a points target they believe will secure safety by the end of the season.
“Out of 17 matches, we have accumulated 18 points. It’s not good for the team,” he said.
“We have a target to stay in the league, so we have to try as much as possible to at least get 25 points in the second round.”
The Hohoe United boss emphasized that survival, not style, is the priority, insisting his team is ready to battle for every point available.
“That’s exactly what we are going to do if we really want to stay in the league. If we get more, that’s a bonus, but we are going to fight very well in the league,” Bashiru added.
Hohoe United currently sit 15th on the Ghana Premier League table, a position that leaves little margin for error. With a tough fixture against Hearts of Oak looming, Bashiru knows that further dropped points could see his side slip into the relegation zone, making the upcoming matches critical to their survival hopes.
