Hayford Braces for Kotoko Challenge as Heart of Lions Seek Revival
Heart of Lions head coach Bashir Hayford has admitted his side faces a demanding assignment when they welcome Asante Kotoko in their upcoming Ghana Premier League fixture at the Kpando Sports Stadium.
Previewing Saturday’s clash, the veteran trainer was full of respect for the Porcupine Warriors, who have rediscovered their rhythm in recent weeks. Despite acknowledging Kotoko’s pedigree, Hayford insists his team is gearing up to compete and push for a favourable outcome.
“It is going to be a very tough game. We cannot underrate anyone. Kotoko are strong and back to their winning ways, but we are preparing very well to match them and aim for a positive result,” Hayford told Heart of Lions TV.
The Kpando-based side head into the encounter under pressure after a difficult run that has seen them record just one win, one draw and three defeats in their last five league outings. With momentum slipping away, Lions are eager to collect vital points to steady their campaign.
Kotoko, by contrast, arrive in confident mood, having posted two wins, two draws and only one loss in the same period. Their morale was further boosted by a commanding 3-0 triumph over Basake Holy Stars in their most recent match.
As the league table stands after 20 rounds, Heart of Lions sit seventh with 27 points, while Kotoko occupy second place on 35 points, trailing leaders Medeama SC by eight. The clash in the Volta Region promises to be a stern test for both sides, with contrasting ambitions adding extra edge to the contest.
