Gold Stars assistant coach Nana Yaw Amankwah confident ahead of Kotoko clash
Bibiani Gold Stars assistant coach Nana Yaw Amankwah says his side is brimming with confidence ahead of their highly anticipated Ghana Premier League encounter with Asante Kotoko on Wednesday night.
The reigning league champions head into the rescheduled Week 2 fixture at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on the back of a narrow 1-0 victory over Swedru All Blacks on Sunday — a result Amankwah believes has lifted the players’ spirits and sharpened their focus.
Speaking to the club’s media team, the coach explained that preparation for the Kotoko clash began well in advance, with the team steadily building momentum after their last outing.
“The team started preparations even before the game against All Blacks. We have continued with preparations, and today we are on top. Kotoko is a big team. We faced them last time in the Champion of Champions, and they beat us. They are a good side, and they are there,” Amankwah said.
He acknowledged that while the recent win was a vital morale booster, there is still work to be done to match Kotoko’s quality.
“The last game we won 1-0. I think that is the morale booster. Still, there is room for improvement, and we have done that. When we play against Kotoko, there will be a lot of improvement,” he added.
Gold Stars have enjoyed a positive start to their campaign despite the early challenges, and Wednesday’s fixture presents an opportunity to maintain their momentum against one of Ghana’s most successful clubs.
The much-anticipated showdown between Asante Kotoko and Bibiani Gold Stars will kick off at 7:00 p.m. at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.
