The Functional Sports League Ghana (FSLG) in collaboration with Groupe Imperial and High Protein Recovery successfully launched its much-anticipated fitness campaign with the May Day Sweat Fest on Wednesday, May 1, 2025, at the Karikari Brobbey Astroturf Park in Dansoman.

The event, themed “We Rise & Grind for a Better Tomorrow”, kicked off at 6:00 AM and featured a series of high-energy activities aimed at promoting health, fitness, and well-being among Ghanaians of all ages and fitness levels.

Led by renowned trainer Charles Owusu Ansah, participants were taken through intense functional sports contests, workout sessions, and endurance challenges. The program also included product activation and sales, giving attendees the opportunity to engage with various health and wellness brands.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Charles Owusu Ansah, President of the Functional Sports League Ghana, explained the motivation behind the festival.

“May Day Sweat Fest is designed for Ghanaian workers to engage in physical activities,” he said. “When you look at the Ghanaian worker, they move from the house, sit in the car then go to the office. Some can even take the whole day without even standing up for lunch. So that is why we brought this initiative – to at least come out and train today. This is the first time, and the turnout was great.”

The event is part of a larger nationwide strategy to integrate physical wellness into the lifestyle of Ghanaian workers.

William Kartey, Chief Director at the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, reiterated the government’s support for such initiatives, saying:

“This forms part of a nationwide initiative to inspire healthy lifestyles through sports and physical activities. At the Ministry of Sports, we believe that sports and physical activities are essential components of healthy lifestyles.”

In addition to the physical workouts, the event marked the official press launch of the GoFit Ghana Fitness Campaign, an initiative designed to make fitness accessible and exciting for communities across the country. The campaign emphasizes daily movement, mental resilience, and community engagement through sports and fitness.

With strong turnout and enthusiasm from the working population, the organizers are confident that May Day Sweat Fest will become a staple on Ghana’s labour calendar in the years to come.

Proudly sponsored by High Protein Recovery, May Day Sweat Fest is hoping to become a household name in context of keeping fit.
