Ghana’s 4x100m Relay Team Narrowly Miss World Championship Spot, Set for Second Chance on Sunday
Ghana’s men’s 4x100m relay team fell just short of securing an automatic qualification spot for the World Athletics Championships after finishing third in Heat 1 of the World Relays in China on Saturday.
The team—comprising Barnabas Aggerh, Sean Safo-Antwi, Joseph Paul Amoah, and Ibrahim Fuseni—clocked an impressive time but missed out on second place by a mere 0.05 seconds behind Poland. The heat was won by Great Britain & Northern Ireland, with Poland and Ghana completing the top three in that order.

Despite the team’s strong performance, their third-place finish was not enough to secure a direct slot at the World Championships. France, who were considered one of the stronger teams in the heat, disappointed with a fifth-place finish behind fourth-placed Korea, while Colombia ended sixth.
Although the result was a setback, Ghana’s sprint team will have another opportunity to qualify when they compete in Round 2 of the men’s 4×100 metres World Championships qualifying event on Sunday.
With the margins so fine, the team will look to make the necessary adjustments and capitalize on their final chance to punch a ticket to the global stage.
