Ghana Welcomes King’s Baton Relay with Ceremony at Jubilee House

Ghana has joined the global celebration of unity and friendship by hosting the King’s Baton Relay, one of the most symbolic traditions of the Commonwealth Games.

The event was staged at Jubilee House in Accra, where dignitaries and officials gathered to mark the historic occasion.

The ceremony attracted several high-profile personalities, including the Chief of Staff, the British High Commissioner, the President of the Ghana Olympic Committee, the Director-General of the National Sports Authority, as well as members of the GOC and the National Anti-Corruption Programme. Their presence reflected the importance of Ghana’s role in the Commonwealth sporting family.

Wilhelmina Asamoah, Chief Director at the Ministry of Youth and Sports, delivered a stirring address that highlighted the wider significance of the relay. She commended the Commonwealth Sports Movement and its partners for their support, noting the impact the relay is designed to make. She explained that it not only inspires athletes but also uplifts the youth and strengthens ties among nations.

The King’s Baton Relay, which has long symbolised togetherness and shared values within the Commonwealth, continues its journey through various nations. Ghana’s hosting stands as a testament to the country’s dedication to promoting unity through sport while nurturing the next generation of talent.
