Ghana has been confirmed as the host nation for the maiden edition of the U-20 WAFU A&B Boys Cup, scheduled to take place from June 15 to 30, 2025.

The historic tournament will bring together all 16 member nations from both West African zones in a unified championship designed to promote youth football development across the sub-region.

This development follows Ghana’s successful hosting of the CAF African Schools Football Championship in April at the University of Ghana Stadium.

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) and Ministry of Youth and Sports have committed to delivering yet another high-profile competition that will strengthen the country’s status as a hub for youth football in Africa.

The participating nations include Cape Verde, The Gambia, Guinea Bissau, Guinea, Mali, Liberia, Mauritania, Senegal. Sierra Leone, Benin, Burkina Faso, Côte d’Ivoire, Niger, Nigeria, Togo and host nation Ghana

Unlike previous editions of WAFU competitions—which were held separately in Zone A and Zone B as qualifiers for the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations—this new tournament format combines both zones into a single championship. The objective is to provide more competitive matches and to create greater visibility for young players from across the region.

Matches will be played primarily at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram, with the grand finale set to take place at the University of Ghana Stadium in Accra.

The competition is expected to foster stronger regional cooperation, unearth future stars for the continent, and attract international scouts and stakeholders looking to tap into West Africa’s rich talent pool.

This marks a significant milestone in youth football development and signals Ghana’s continued leadership role in football advancement on the continent.
