The Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has disclosed that Ghana is engaged in discussions with Wales over a potential international friendly as part of preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Addressing a Parliamentary Committee on Thursday, February 26, Adams confirmed that efforts are underway to secure another high-profile test for the Black Stars before they depart for the global tournament.

Ghana are already building a competitive schedule ahead of the Mundial, which will be co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico this summer. Head coach Otto Addo has lined up two European friendlies during the March international window — first against Austria on March 27 at the Ernst Happel Stadium in Vienna, before taking on Germany three days later in Stuttgart.

In addition, the Ghana Football Association is finalising arrangements for a May friendly against Mexico, with details on the venue and date still to be announced.

The possible clash with Wales would further strengthen Ghana’s preparations as they gear up for their fifth appearance at the World Cup.

The Black Stars have been drawn in Group L, where they will face Panama in their opening fixture on June 17. A heavyweight encounter with England follows on June 23, before Ghana conclude their group-stage campaign against Croatia on June 27.

After back-to-back group-stage eliminations at recent tournaments, the four-time African champions are aiming to deliver a far more competitive showing and restore pride on football’s biggest stage.
