Ghana Cycling Federation Concludes 2024 with National Road Cycling Championship
The Ghana Cycling Federation wrapped up its 2024 season with the 10th edition of the National Road Cycling Championship on November 30 at Vicolis Olebu, Ablekuma.
The event featured an impressive display of talent in Individual Time Trials and Road Races across multiple categories.
Women’s Under 23/Elite Dominance by Annim Ellen
Annim Ellen of Team Sky stood out in the women’s Under 23/Elite category. She won the Individual Time Trial, completing the course in 47:03 minutes with an average speed of 28.30km/h. Ellen also claimed victory in the 50km Road Race, finishing in 1:46:01 hours to secure her second gold of the championship.
Junior Category Triumph for Mohammed Farrakhan Shaaban
Mohammed Farrakhan Shaaban from River Pack, Eastern, excelled in the men’s Junior category. He clocked 38:10 minutes in the Individual Time Trial, maintaining an impressive average speed of 39.30km/h. Shaaban later dominated the 62.5km Road Race, finishing in 1:47:14 hours to claim another gold medal.
Under 23 and Elite Men Shine in Competitive Road Races
In the men’s Under 23 Road Race, Sesi Emmanuel of Royal Stars completed the 100km course in 2:37:29 hours to emerge victorious. Meanwhile, the men’s Elite category saw Amu Francis of FCG win the 100km Road Race with a time of 2:37:20 hours, showcasing exceptional endurance and speed.
Shaban Mohammed, General Secretary of the Ghana Cycling Federation, expressed delight at the championship’s success. “Despite challenges in organizing the event, the performance of our cyclists was commendable. This event is a stepping stone for greater achievements in Ghanaian cycling,” he said.
“Organizing seminars for club officials is crucial. It will equip them to provide the necessary support for our athletes and drive the growth of cycling in Ghana,” he noted. “We are preparing to take Ghanaian cycling to the next level in 2025,” he stated.
