The Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA) has officially announced Sunday, July 6, 2025, as the date for this year’s edition of the President’s Cup. The high-profile encounter will see fierce rivals Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak face off at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The annual match, held in honour of the sitting President of Ghana, is expected to reignite one of the most historic and passionate rivalries in African football. With both clubs enjoying massive nationwide support, the fixture promises to deliver thrilling moments on and off the pitch.

Speaking at the announcement event, William Katey, a Director at the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, highlighted the importance of the President’s Cup in the broader effort to rejuvenate Ghanaian football.

“The Honourable Minister and the government are very committed to restoring Ghanaian football to its old glory, and the event [President’s Cup] is meant to kickstart this commitment,” he said.

“This event will serve as the stepping stone in this direction.”

Last year’s edition saw Ivorian giants ASEC Mimosas defeat Asante Kotoko to claim the trophy, ending the Porcupines’ bid for a ninth title. Kotoko, who have lifted the President’s Cup eight times, will be eager to make amends and reclaim their dominance in the competition.

Meanwhile, Hearts of Oak—six-time champions of the Cup—will look to add another chapter to their rich history by toppling their Kumasi-based rivals.

With national pride, bragging rights, and a prestigious trophy on the line, the 2025 President’s Cup promises to be an unforgettable affair for football fans across Ghana.
