The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has announced plans to introduce a minimum wage structure for players in the Ghana Premier League, pending approval by the Executive Council (EXCO).

The move is aimed at ensuring fair compensation for footballers and addressing long-standing concerns about poor wages among players in the domestic league.

Speaking on Starr FM, GFA Communications Director, Henry Asante Twum, confirmed the initiative as part of broader reforms to professionalize and improve player welfare in the country’s top-flight league.

“GFA to introduce minimum wage structure for players in the Ghana Premier League after EXCO approval,” said Asante Twum during his appearance on the #SportsNite segment on Monday, August 4, 2025.

It aligns with the GFA’s ongoing efforts to raise standards in the local game, boost player motivation, and retain talent within the Ghanaian league system.

This proposed wage structure is expected to set a baseline salary threshold for clubs, helping to create a more competitive and professional environment for footballers across the country.

Once approved by the Executive Council, the policy will take effect ahead of the upcoming 2025/26 Ghana Premier League season.
