The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has officially unveiled the Black Satellites’ 26-man squad for the 2025 TotalEnergies U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Egypt, just a day ahead of the team’s Group C opener against DR Congo.

The announcement, made on Thursday evening, came after mounting pressure from fans, media, and stakeholders who had called for greater transparency around squad selection. The delay sparked concerns, particularly with the tournament set to kick off on Friday, May 2, in Suez.

Head coach Desmond Sakyi Ofei leads the squad, which features a mix of home-based talents and Europe-based players.

Prominent names include Jerry Afriyie of Spanish side CD Lugo, Abdul Aziz Issah of FC Barcelona B, and Aziz Musibau, a rising striker from Dreams FC. Also included are players from clubs such as Real Sociedad, Zulte Waregem, and Austria’s Sturm Graz, signaling a well-balanced and internationally tested team.

Ghana will face DR Congo in their first Group C clash at the Suez Stadium, with kickoff scheduled for 18:00 GMT.

Ghana’s group also includes defending champions Senegal and the Central African Republic. The top two teams from each group, along with the two best third-placed teams, will advance to the quarterfinals.

Crucially, the four semifinalists will earn a ticket to the 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile, adding extra motivation for the Black Satellites to go far.
