The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has officially announced that the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League (GPL) season will kick off on the weekend of September 12, 2025, and conclude on the weekend of May 23/24, 2026.

The decision to finalize the domestic league within this timeframe is a strategic move by the GFA to align with the 23rd edition of the FIFA World Cup, which is set to take place from June 11 to July 19, 2026. This alignment ensures that all elite local competitions are concluded before the global football showpiece begins.

In a statement released on Monday, the GFA said the timeline reflects its ongoing commitment to upholding the FIFA calendar while preserving the integrity, competitiveness, and coordination of Ghana’s domestic football structure.

As part of preparations for the upcoming campaign, the GFA also confirmed that its Ordinary Congress will be held on August 12, 2025, one month ahead of the new season.

The league will maintain its traditional format, with Sunday matches forming the core of weekly fixtures. Midweek slots will again be reserved for outstanding matches, following a similar structure adopted during the 2024/25 season.

Meanwhile, the player registration window for the new season will officially open on Monday, June 23, 2025, and close on Sunday, August 24, 2025. This registration period, as per GFA regulations, must conclude before the commencement of each football season.

The 2025/26 campaign will see Bibiani Gold Stars SC embark on their historic title defence, having been crowned champions for the first time in the just-ended season.

The GFA emphasized that the early release of the full season schedule is aimed at providing clubs, players, sponsors, and all stakeholders adequate time to prepare for what promises to be a competitive and exciting football year.
