Former Black Stars assistant coach George Boateng has reached an agreement to become the new head coach of Belgian third-tier outfit RAEC Mons.

The 49-year-old former Dutch international is set to sign a three-year contract with the club as he takes on the challenge of guiding them back to prominence in Belgian football.

Boateng has been out of management since parting ways with English Championship side Coventry City in November 2024, following the arrival of Frank Lampard as manager.

Prior to his stint in England, Boateng played a key role in Ghana’s national team setup, serving as assistant coach during the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar and the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast.

The former Middlesbrough and Aston Villa midfielder brings with him vast coaching and playing experience, and his appointment is expected to inject renewed confidence and ambition into the Mons project.
