Former Vice President of the Ghana Football Association, George Afriyie, has firmly rejected claims that he is set to become the next Chief Executive Officer of Asante Kotoko.

In recent weeks, reports have suggested that the experienced administrator was being considered to lead the Porcupine Warriors ahead of the 2026/27 season. The speculation gained traction amid expectations that the club’s Interim Management Committee (IMC), led by Nana Apinkrah Akwasi Awuah, will be dissolved at the end of the current campaign to pave the way for a substantive board and permanent leadership structure.

Afriyie, however, has dismissed the rumours, stating clearly that he is not in contention for the position.

“No doubt, Asante Kotoko is a big club with a rich history but at the moment, I am not in the race to become the new CEO of the club,” Mr Afriyie said.

While acknowledging that informal discussions may be taking place within certain circles, he maintained that no official contact has been made regarding the role.

“Perhaps there have been conversations around some quarters, but as it stands, no one has spoken to me to become the Chief Executive Officer of the club. I have friends there, but nothing has been discussed,” he added.

Afriyie remains one of the most seasoned figures in Ghanaian football administration. His résumé includes serving in key capacities at Swedru All Blacks and chairing the Black Stars Management Committee, among other influential assignments within the domestic game.
