President of the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA), Abraham Kotei Neequaye, has expressed deep concern over what he describes as the misuse of Ghana’s boxing structures by individuals pursuing personal and commercial interests.

The GBA President’s comments come amid ongoing debates about the governance of boxing in Ghana and the growing influence of non-state actors within the sport.

His statement suggests that despite the official oversight of boxing by a national authority, some figures are manipulating the system to serve their own ends—at the expense of transparency and the development of young boxers.

Speaking during an interview on SportsNite on Asempa FM, Neequaye criticized the actions of certain stakeholders whom he accuses of hijacking the state-backed sport for private benefit.

“Ghana Boxing is a state entity, but a group of individuals is exploiting it for personal gain and using it for private business interests,” Neequaye asserted.

His comments are expected to spark reactions within the boxing community, as concerns continue to mount about the sustainability and integrity of boxing in Ghana.
