Frederick Asare Departs Asante Kotoko After Contract Expiry

Frederick Asare has officially ended his time with Asante Kotoko following the expiration of his contract, drawing the curtain on a two-year spell with the Ghanaian giants.

The 25-year-old goalkeeper, who began the 2024/25 season as a contender for the No.1 spot, saw his role diminished after the emergence of Guinean international Mohammed Camara. With first-team opportunities limited and financial negotiations stalling, Asare declined an extension and now leaves the club as a free agent.

Although Kotoko’s Interim Management Committee (IMC) had expressed interest in renewing Asare’s deal, sources close to the negotiations say both parties failed to find common ground on salary terms. This led to a mutual decision not to renew the contract.

Asare joined Asante Kotoko in 2022 after impressing with Accra Lions, where he played a pivotal role in their promotion to the Ghana Premier League. At Kotoko, he made a total of 15 appearances in the 2024/25 league season, keeping seven clean sheets and conceding 12 goals.

He also earned a call-up to the Black Stars in 2023, though he is yet to debut for the national team. A lack of consistent playing time in the past season saw him drop out of the national picture.

Asare’s exit forms part of a broader squad restructuring at Asante Kotoko as the club gears up for the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League season and their CAF Confederation Cup campaign.
