Black Queens midfielder Chantelle Boye-Hlorkah has showered praise on goalkeeper Cynthia Konlan, describing her performance as “amazing” after Ghana sealed a spot in the semi-finals of the ongoing 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

Ghana advanced to the last four with a dramatic 4-2 penalty shootout victory over Algeria, thanks in large part to Konlan’s heroics between the sticks, where she saved two crucial penalties.

The win marks Ghana’s first qualification to the WAFCON semi-finals since 2016, rekindling hopes of ending the nation’s long wait for continental glory.

“Amazing, I told the whole of Ghana to believe in us,” Chantelle said following the tense encounter.

“We pushed it, we gave a couple of heart attacks but [the belief from everyone] pushed us through.

“Cynthia [goalkeeper] made it easy for us. She put us ahead by saving. In my eyes, a goalkeeper should never save a penalty. She did amazing and we are grateful we’ve got her in goal.”

The Black Queens will now turn their attention to a highly anticipated semi-final clash against host nation Morocco on July 22, with a place in the final on the line.
