Burundian Referee to Officiate Goldstars vs JS Kabylie Champions League Tie
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has confirmed Georges Gatogato of Burundi as the referee for the CAF Champions League preliminary round fixture between Ghanaian champions Goldstars and Algerian giants JS Kabylie.
The first-leg encounter is scheduled for Saturday afternoon at the Accra Sports Stadium, where both clubs will be chasing a crucial advantage in their bid to progress in Africa’s most prestigious club competition.
Gatogato, 36, is one of the most experienced referees on the continent, having been FIFA-listed since 2007. Over the years, he has handled several high-profile matches across CAF tournaments, including AFCON qualifiers, the CAF Champions League, and the Confederation Cup.
He will have familiar support on the day, with fellow Burundians Emery Niyongabo and Olivier Nibogora serving as Assistant Referee I and II respectively. Another countryman, Bertrand Manirakiza, has been assigned as the fourth official.
Goldstars, who lifted the Ghana Premier League title last season, will be eager to make a positive statement in front of their home supporters before traveling to Algeria for the return leg.
