As Ghana’s U-20 national team, the Black Satellites, gear up for the 2025 TotalEnergies CAF U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Egypt, Assistant Coach Salifu Fatawu has raised concerns about the squad’s stability due to significant player turnover.

The tournament is scheduled to run from April 27 to May 18, 2025, and is expected to showcase some of the continent’s brightest young talents.

In an interview on Asempa FM, Coach Fatawu addressed the ongoing challenge of rebuilding the team following the exit of several key players who have moved on to professional opportunities elsewhere.

“The only challenge we have as coaches is regrouping the boys and preparing them, because many of them left the team after getting opportunities elsewhere,” Fatawu admitted.

Ghana has been drawn into a tough Group C that includes defending champions Senegal, DR Congo, and the Central African Republic.

Ghana, a four-time U-20 AFCON champion and winner of the 2009 FIFA U-20 World Cup, will be hoping to draw on its rich youth football legacy as it seeks to return to the summit of African football.

With new faces and fresh energy, the road ahead may be uncertain, but the ambition remains the same — to bring glory back to Ghana.
