Black Queens Goalkeeper Cynthia Konlan Confident Ahead of Morocco Clash
Black Queens goalkeeper Cynthia Konlan is optimistic about Ghana’s chances as they prepare to face Morocco in an international friendly on Friday, February 21, at the Père Jégo Stadium in Casablanca.
The match marks Ghana’s first under new head coach Kim Lars Björkegren and their first competitive fixture since their clash with Japan in July last year.
Konlan believes the Black Queens have an advantage over the Atlas Lionesses and expects the team to put on a strong display.
“We’re confident in our abilities and believe we have an advantage over Morocco. They might be relying on outdated information about our playing style, which could work in our favor,” she told the GFA media team.
“We’re ready to take them by surprise and make the most of this opportunity,” she added.
The Black Queens have been fine-tuning their tactics in Morocco under Björkegren and his assistants, Sampson Charles and Anita Wiredu. Konlan praised the impact of the new technical team, highlighting the improvements in training sessions.
“The training sessions have been great, and we’ve seen positive changes compared to our previous coach. The new systems and tactics are exciting, and we’re enjoying the challenge,” she said.
The match against Morocco serves as an important test as Ghana intensifies preparations for the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON). Kickoff is scheduled for 17:00 GMT.
