Ghana’s senior women’s national team has received a major vote of confidence from head coach Kim Lars Bjorkegren, who believes the Black Queens possess the quality to compete for and potentially win the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.

The team is currently fine-tuning preparations in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, where they are competing in the 2026 Pink Ladies Cup — a key preparatory tournament ahead of the continental showpiece.

Ghana opened the four-nation competition with an emphatic win over Hong Kong before delivering an even more resounding statement with a 4-0 triumph against Russia on Tuesday. The dominant display against the European side has further strengthened belief within the camp.

Speaking after the victory, Bjorkegren described the performance as evidence of the immense potential within his squad.

“I mean, the high potential in this group is top, top. It shows that we have the quality to go all the way [at WAFCON 2026] and beat all of the teams in Africa. It’s not going to be easy. So, it’s a separate style of football as well. I think they suit us pretty well in Russia. So, we need to have that in our mind. But, I mean, we can only do what we can do, and we did it today,” Kim Lars Bjorkegren said.

While acknowledging that African competition presents different tactical and physical challenges, the Swedish tactician remains optimistic about his team’s adaptability and growth.

The Black Queens will wrap up their Pink Ladies Cup campaign against Tanzania on Friday, March 6, 2026. With confidence high and momentum building, Ghana’s women appear to be shaping into serious contenders as WAFCON draws closer.
