Asante Kotoko are on the verge of parting ways with experienced midfielder Justice Blay following a mutual agreement to terminate his contract, sources close to the club have revealed.

While an official statement from the club is still pending, confirmation of the decision is expected in the coming days as both parties finalize the required documentation.

Blay, who rejoined the Porcupine Warriors in 2021 after an outstanding loan spell from Medeama SC, quickly cemented his place as a key figure in Kotoko’s midfield. Renowned for his defensive solidity, tough tackling, and on-field composure, Blay played a vital role in the club’s campaigns over the past three seasons.

According to reports, the 32-year-old is set for a move to an unnamed Algerian club, which has precipitated the mutual contract termination to allow him to pursue the new opportunity.

His departure signals the beginning of what is shaping up to be a significant squad overhaul at Kotoko, who are keen on rebuilding ahead of the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League season. The club has already hinted at a series of changes to strengthen its competitiveness following a mixed performance in the recently concluded campaign.

Blay’s imminent exit will leave a leadership gap in midfield, and it remains to be seen how Kotoko plans to fill the void left by the influential midfielder, who also enjoyed immense popularity among the club’s fans.
